Comment:

 Sending a file from pidgin-on-Linux -> pidgin-on-Windows works quickly but
 sending a file from pidgin-on-Windows -> pidgin-on-Linux works slowly? Or
 are there multiple clients involved?

 Can you get the Help->Debug Window output from both the sending and
 receiving sides of both directions of the transfer?
