to enable some features

 1. Start Pidgin
 2. Add Account
 3. Select Protocol: IRC
 4. Enter a username and an INCORRECT server (for example aaa.b.com)
 5. Select Add...
 6. From the warning in the Buddy List window, select modify account
 7. Change the server entry to a correct server
 8. Select OK
 9. From Buddy List window, select Buddies

 Expected Result

 Connection to the server is made. User have join a channel or send an IM
 options from the Buddies menu enabled once the connection is established.

 Actual Result

 The options are still grayed out after the connection is established.

 Work-around:

 Restart Pidgin.
