Comment:

 On most public XMPP servers that field in that dialog would be filled in
 automatically from the information retrieved from the server when pidgin
 logs in. Google Talk however does not provide that information because
 they do not host a standard multi-user chat (muc) service on the Google
 Talk service. So you can either use any other public muc server (such as
 conference.jabber.org) or right-click on a buddy in your buddy list and
 'Initiate Chat' to create a Google Talk-style muc.
