 As a work-around, you could move the logs in your ~/.purple/logs
 directory.

 To solve this issue, perhaps the answer is to handle server-initiated
 deletions separately. (Even if those are from you deleting the user on
 another client, I think we still want the same handling.) We'd want to
 delete the buddy and, if and only if you have logs for that buddy, replace
 it with some sort of placeholder entry that wouldn't show up in the UI (or
 at least not in the same way as regular buddies).

 Also, when deleting an account, you'd want to handle all the buddies in
 this way.

 Finally, when adding a buddy, you'd want to remove any of these fake
 entries that corresponds to that buddy.

 I'm not likely to implement this feature myself, but I'll help review
 patches from someone who is interested.
