New description:

 If I am editing a status message OR conversation window that begins with a
 link, any characters inserted before the existing link become a part of
 that link.

 This is true even for new lines (shift-enter), which is clearly not the
 expected action.

 This makes it impossible to insert characters before an existing link
 without clearing the existing link before inserting new chars.
