#13431: Tray minimize and flashing new message notifications are broken in 2.7.9 +

 After upgrading to 2.7.10 (from 2.7.7) on CentOS 5.5 (fully patched,
 running Gnome), the following problems are observed:

 1) The system tray icon is stuck at 'available'. Changing status does not
 change the icon.
 2) New message indicator in the system tray is no longer visible. Even if
 a new message has been received, clicking on the system tray icon does not
 pop it up.
 3) Minimize to system tray no longer works. When I minimize, the buddy
 list is still listed in the application list panel, but in a minimized
 state instead of hidden in the system tray.

 Downgrading back to 2.7.7 resolves the problems. These same issues are
 also found in 2.7.9. I wiped out all of my Pidgin settings and disabled
 all plugins (only Nautilus integration was originally enabled), but the
 problem continues to occur.
