 Pidgin already supports this on a per-account basis, so you would have to
 use one account for your clients and another account for your co-workers.
 (Go to the status menu and click "New Status...".)

 Anyway, I think that this feature would be useful because it would reduce
 the need for several accounts in those cases.

 I also think that this should feature should not only be implemented for
 XMPP but for all other protocols that support it. I also think that it
 should be possible to set different statuses on a per-group basis so I
 don't have to manually select every single buddy in a group.
