 It certainly isn't supremely common for apps to do that but I've seen more
 than one do that, and pidgin does.

 If using the pidgin menutray (that's what pidgin calls it) icon by itself
 doesn't display this issue, which you seemed to indicate and I believe is
 the case, then this is a libnotify plugin issue (we've seen similar
 crashes with other external notification/response plugins though I
 couldn't find tickets about it when I looked before).
