 I'm having the same issue when using multiple monitors. I can no longer
 maximize applications to actual full screen. Applications will maximize to
 a part of the screen that is vertically maximized but horizontally
 sticking to one edge only.

 Win Xp (Lenovo, just a coincidence i hope ?) Pidgin 2.7.9 (libpurple
 2.7.9) and now also in Pidgin 2.10

 Problem starts when i leave my pc unattended for a while (typically
 locked, don't have a screensaver)

 Workaround from wiremat doesn't seem to work for me so far. So i have to
 restart Pidgin every time.
