 I also experience this when I'm on a bad connection.  Both in Pidgin 2.6.6
 (Ubuntu lucid) as well as gyachi which I sometimes use for some of the
 things Pidgin can't do in Yahoo.  I wonder how much of it is due to a poor
 implementation of the protocol?
