 How long is the base64-encoded string?

 This looks like a crash in your graphics card driver.  Is pidgin actually
 crashing (e.g. if you enable coredumps, does pidgin dump core), or is
 something causing X to die?  Alternately, enable coredumps for X, and then
 look at that core file (though the best thing to do would be to submit the
 backtrace from that to Arch)

 It should go without saying, but I'll say it anyway: Nothing Pidgin does
 should cause the entire X session to die.
