Comment:

 It looks like Windows is being switched into 256 color mode in the second
 screenshot.

 I haven't ever heard of this happening before - Pidgin has no knowledge or
 control over such things.

 Did you install any new software / updates when this started happening?
 What changed when this first started happening?
