 This is exactly what I was looking for. I have in my Buddies list around
 300 Buddies, so at least every few minutes someone is going
 online/offline.
 I'm also using Dropbox to sync my pidgin config across three PC's, it
 works great but since there are always changes to blist.xml Dropbox is
 continuously updating.

 A switch at the preferences would be great.
