Comment:

 There probably actually isn't anything pidgin can do to more gracefully
 handle this. I doubt pidgin is even aware this is happening (but a
 backtrace would help determine that for sure). pidgin doesn't use clutter
 directly. That is is being used at all is almost certainly going to be the
 result of a general GTK+ dependency or some plugin depending on it or
 something similar.
