#15174: Pidgin ICQ/AIM too frequent login
--------------------------------+-------------------------------------------
Reporter: MatatTHC | Owner: MarkDoliner
Type: defect | Status: new
Component: ICQ | Version: 2.10.3
Keywords: too frequent login |

Hi,
I'm using Pidgin 2.10.3 (libpurple 2.10.3) in Ubuntu. I'm unable to
connect to ICQ/AIM in Pidgin (and also empathy).
In the original setting it reports:
"""
You have been connecting and disconnecting too frequently. Wait ten
minutes and try again. If you continue to try, you will need to wait even
longer.
"""
I found a forum entry suggesting to use modified settings:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1944629
When I disable the client login option as suggested in the forum I get:
"""
ACCOUNTNR disabled
Unknown reason
"""
after much searching (and finding similar reports years old) I found a fix
(not to be confused with solution):
- login.icq.com (instead of slogin.oscar.aol.com)
- disable encryption
- disabled client login
So the problem seems to be the combination of encryption and login server
...
Thank you in advance.
P.S. For completeness: I'm traveling upstream with this bug for some time
now:
