Most software and websites do the same, offering an option to save
password without any kind of warning. Even Firefox, one of the most
popular applications, does that.
I think that the key point is, even for the average user, it's quite
''obvious'' that saving passwords is insecure :-/
I think there's an idea somewhere to implement master passwords in Pidgin,
and there are Windows and Gnome keyring plugins if you are concerned (I
tried the Windows one at home with password-empty system account, but I
could recover the stored Pidgin password very easily with some random
tool).
