 Most applications however don't store passwords in plain text and provide
 some encryption.  To compare the level of risk between how pidgin stores
 passwords and how firefox stores passwords are poles apart.

 It isn't "obvious" that saving password is insecure.  If you offer the
 option to store passwords then to me it would be "obvious" that this is
 being done securely.
