 There are multiple tickets with this issue out there for the past 6 years.
 It seems like one of the bigger issues with Pidgin and it is something
 that does not work like any other client out there that I have ever seen.
 A user would never expect random formatting from a pasted web page or
 email or other RTF source to persist through the rest of the conversation.

 Really I think most users would not expect the formatting to be pasted in
 the first place by default. Normally this is something you don't want to
 happen. But if it didn't persist through the rest of the conversation it
 would be much easier to live with.

 Having to constantly reset the font is definitely a barrier to people
 using the software. Every time I recommend it to somebody I have to
 explain this.

 This is a current issue in 2.10.7.
