Comment:

 The most likely cause of this is that you have a zlib1.dll in your System
 PATH that's overriding the one that's distributed with Pidgin.
 The solution to this will be to correct the path (or if the file is in a
 Windows system directory, to remove it from there).

 It's also possible that the zlib1.dll installed with Pidgin got corrupted,
 in which case, you should reinstall pidgin (including the GTK+ runtime).
