 Just to clarify, what I mean is that on Pidgin, all of my buddies whether
 on Facebook or Google appear simply as XMPP users.  There appears to be no
 difference between the two.  Both use the same emoticons on Pidgin, though
 this is not the case when on their own platforms.  If I were on Jabber or
 iChat, that would put three or even four accounts all under the XMPP
 umbrella, all with the ''same'' protocol icons.

 I have friends who use multiple XMPP platforms and it's not very clear
 which one I'm reaching them on when using Pidgin.  Does that help you
 understand what I mean by "muddied waters"?
