I have been using Pidgin for years now and this is the first time I have
had any trouble with it. For about the last 3 months, I have been having
an issue with Pidgin becoming unresponsive 12-24hrs after launch. I have
to use the Task Manager to terminate Pidgin if it is minimized. If the
Buddy List window is open, I can click on it and Windows gives me the
option to terminate the process or wait. I have hesitated to open a ticket
because Pidgin does not create a pidgin.RPT file for me when it becomes
unresponsive. I do have the debug symbols in the installation directory.
I always install the newest version of Pidgin ASAP and I don’t use any
plugins. The only software firewall I use is Windows’ built-in firewall
and I have added Pidgin to the allowed App list. I have tried completely
removing Pidgin and reinstalling it. I have been searching for a fix but
nothing I have come across worked. I eventually tried a clean install of
Windows this week but that did nothing. Listed below are some
irregularities I have come across while trying to troubleshoot my issue.
1) I have noticed in the Details tab in the Task Manager that Pidgin will
be using 500+ Threads when it eventually becomes
unresponsive.[http://i.imgur.com/k1Ac57U.png]
2) I recently downloaded Process Hacker to see if I could find some more
information about what is going on and noticed in the Network tab that
Pidgin will have an excessive amount of instances created, it took 50
minutes for 168 instances of Pidgin to be created.
[http://i.imgur.com/RzfEazu.png] There were 4 more screenshots like this
since I couldn't get all of them in one screenshot.
3) When I Analyze Wait Chain on the Pidgin process I get a “One or more
threads of pidgin.exe are waiting to finish network I/O” message and it
lists a bunch of Threads (currently 60).
