 I'm experiencing this same problem in a corporate environment where the
 server is iChat (it's a Mac shop). While the problem may according to the
 RFCs technically lie with the servers, considering the large number of
 various Jabber installations, not circumventing the issue makes Pidgin
 unusable in many environments. Like deryni mentions, a plugin may be a
 good solution since it's external to the core (and hence the core would be
 in full RFC compliance). I'm looking forward to being able to test it.
