 I'm running Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 LTS with the Gnome Shell.

 Even with the buddy list minimized, when I mouse over the area of my
 screen where it would be I still get the tooltips popping up as though the
 window were visible.

 I'll attach a screenshot to show what I mean.

 This is the only application for which I see such behavior.
