 The issue with video is most probably an issue with gstreamer, it can be
 debugged using:
 GST_DEBUG_NO_COLOR=1 GST_DEBUG='*:3' pidgin -d

 I have the same error, the interesting part of the log is attached
 although it's probably more relevant for gstreamer experts.

 BTW in my case freshly installed gst-launch failed too (on an eeepc 701)
