No, you're definitely not the only one. I also have qualms about this:
besides the defects you mention, when I type ' + s, it gives me "ś",
instead of "'s", which happens normally on Windows. I am already used to
this form of typing, so this is very, very annoying.
Shouldn't Pidgin (or GTK+) use the OS' native keyboard handler? After all,
every user is already used to the way the keyboard behaves in all other
applications.
Still happens in Pidgin 2.10.11 (libpurple 2.10.11)
