 For what it's worth, this error now happens when the user has two-factor
 authentication enabled for their Google account. Here's a guide to fixing
 it:

 This is too bad - Google Talk is the first protocol that a lot of new
 Pidgin users try. It's a little hard to set up, and this authentication
 issue can cause it to fail in a vague way.

 There's no obvious solution. We could maybe notify users who are adding a
 Google Talk account. Ideally, Google would respond with a more informative
 error message, but that doesn't seem like a feasible change.
