 Sorry, I may have been unclear. Middle-clicking the icon hides/shows the
 pidgin window. However, what I wanted is for the icon to be hidden
 normally, but visible when there is a new message. IIRC correctly this was
 the behaviour in KDE Plasma 4, but it doesn't work now in KDE Plasma 5.
