 Hey, a possibly useful clue; I am running nVidea's nView desktop manager.
 This smoothly handles changes to monitor configuration and resolution, but
 I think it might be affecting Pidgin.  When nView is running, a small menu
 of buttons is painted on the Window's toolbar, at the upper left just to
 the right of the Windows controls.  Generally it travels with the Window.
 However I've noticed with Pidgin, after I change the monitor configuration
 this menu separates from Pidgin's window.

 I will try running without nView the next time I reboot, and let you know
 how that affects this bug.
