Comment:

 From reading other issues about that error, eg with curl at
 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1246457,  it does seems to
 suggest to be about the number of bits of encryption

 Unfortunately, this looks like its to do more with the version of NSS on
 your system than anything in Pidgin.  I'm not even sure if the minimum
 number of key bits could be an option in the NSS Preferences plugin.
