 Other than the printf()s in the code, its a step in the right direction :)
 You might always want to mark those transient buddies with the
 PURPLE_BLIST_NODE_FLAG_NO_SAVE flag, or maybe make a new flag for them.

 There's a few prpls that will add the buddy to the buddy list with that
 NO_SAVE flag as a way of dealing with transient buddies.

 Names in group chats (I saw you mention this on the mailing list) can be
 overridden by setting the alias of the chat room user
