 Pidgin 2.12.0 @ Ubuntu 16.04 - the issue still exists.

  Steps to reproduce:

 1) Use the default Available status (with any message)

 2) Wait for the auto-away and it will update the status to Away and set
 the message to: I'm not here right now

 3) Do any activity at the computer. The status is changed back to
 Available, with the message: I'm not here right now
