 This happens to me as well, same pidgin version and on Arch as well.
 Actually '''pasting''' a URL works fine if the conversation window is wide
 enough and it doesn’t need a linebreak. As soon as I paste a URL in any
 condition where it needs to wrap Pidgin crashes and has to be killed -9.
 The same happens if enough text is typed/inserted before a URL so that it
 wraps. Unfortunately, the debug output doesn’t say anything:

 This happens with both XMPP and rocket.chat accounts for me. Steps to
 reproduce: Open a conversation window, insert a URL and make it wrap.
