 This does also happen if I remove the (automatically applied) link
 formatting, and I noticed a hyphen appearing in the URL just before the
 crash. Oh, it’s not at all related to URLs: To reproduce it suffices to
 enter

 {{{
 /sometext
 }}}

 then enter characters before it until it wraps to

 {{{
 |aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa/-      |
 |sometext               |
 }}}

 and continue to enter characters until the inserted hyphen reaches the end
 of the line, that’s when it crashes:

 {{{
 |aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa/-|
 |sometext               |
 }}}

 So this is better described as: '''Pidgin crashes when trying to break a
 line which ends with a slash'''
