Pidgin Buddy List Question

Hi,
I have Pidgin 2.4.1 on a Windows XP computer. When I log onto Pidgen, I am
told everybody is offline on my buddylist. I have an AIM account. When I log
onto AIM Express or AIM on my PC, the people who are really online on my
buddy list appear online in Pidgin and everything functions normally from
there. I have to log onto AIM after starting Pidgin and then close AIM so
that I can use Pidgin by itself. This defeats the purpose of Pidgin, but I
love the simplicity of Pidgin. How can I make it so I don't have to do this
and so my buddy list and all features of Pidgin work normally without
starting AIM first? Thanks
Joe
