"the message is too large"

Isn't that a function of the IM server, not the client software? I've
had that come up in Yahoo a number of times - when I accidentally
copy and paste HTML junk. If I paste the same text into Windows
Notepad (which gets rid of all the HTML), and then copy / paste, it
goes through.

But - the entire message is shown in the top portion of the window,
where a normal previous message would be, along with "Message is too
large." Nothing is 'discarded'.

But if I'm correct that the 'message is too large' is from the
server, it would make sense not to have the client have any size restrictions.

Ok, lets say Yahoo has a limit of 100 characters. AOL has a limit of
75. So Pidgin sets these limits.

Let's say then a month later, Yahoo increases the limit to 150, and
AOL decreases the limit to 60. Now, Pidgin has to come up with an update.

So the way I see it, I think it's best the software not have a limit.

Of course, I could be wrong..
