Access to AOL

 Good day!
Today I've installed Pidgin and I tried to get an access to my AIM account. But I always received a message that my login name contains forbidden characters. My AIM name is yuriy.krasn. On another machine pidgin works good and i have an access to my AIM account. I can only suppose that this symbol is a dot because all rest looks good. 
Mybe you could advise me what have i do?
OS is Kubuntu 10.04, Pidgin is taken from repository.
