 Why don't you simply check all buddy names and then all aliases in loop?
 Is it really so hard?

 The trouble is, the current state is inconvenient and therefore a
 usability problem. With the current solution I must press Ctrl-M, then
 type in name of user, then select him from menu, then press enter twice.
 And you could make that one step less.

 But that's all really irrelevant for me, if someone does ticket 319. The
 definable hotkeys for each user would solve the problem of opening window
 FAST to specific user.
