 I've discovered, after much experimentation, that the problem is an issue
 specifically with the way that gstreamer010 packages are put together...
 the audioresample capability (or whatever you'd call it) SHOULD be in the
 base plugins package, but it is not. Instead, it's in the plugins-base-oil
 rpm. install that package and gaim/pidgin will work like a champ. This
 issue has been reported as a bug in SuSE-10.2, so I would strongly
 recommend closing this issue.
