 Hmm with gtalk I seem to get instant notifications.  Pigin however does
 not seem to do any updates for a long time in comparison.  The only way I
 seem to get email notifications is if everything is marked read in gmail
 and then receive a new mail. If I acknowledge the notifacation, I don't
 get any further notifcations if another email arives unless I mark all the
 messages as read.
