 The sudden focus stealing on incoming messages interrupting the user's
 typing, seems to be the reason behind tickets #1539, #664 and #1296 so
 far. And even though ticket #1230 concerns tabbed mode, the problem here
 is similar.

 My thought here is that basically it seems to be okay to pop up new
 windows as long as they do not take focus. So maybe preventing stealing
 focus is actually the job of the operating system, but considering how
 difficult it would be to change both Xwindows and Windows' behaviour, I
 think it would be nice if the skillfull Pidgin team could address this
 issue somehow.

 I tried using the "Hide new IM conversations" feature a few times, but i
 always end up not noticing new messages that way. So far i can only think
 of two solutions:

 1) New messages open a window that is not in focus, but visible.

 2) If there are any pending messages, the systray icon changes into a VERY
 visible alert-color, and a global hotkey like e.g. Ctrl-Shift-R for "read
 message" opens the window for one of the pending messages AND brings it
 into focus. Miranda offers this solution.
