 I think you may be mistaken about some functionality.  Neither Pidgin nor
 Gaim have ever supported automatically converting text in the entry box
 into smileys before it's sent as far as I am aware.  The reason we don't
 do that is because it could be a problem for smileys when the entered
 smiley is a subset of another one, and it's also a great deal of extra
 reparsing as you type, so it would probably be slow.  If you use the
 selection box to select a smiley, it will insert it as a graphic,
 otherwise, if you type it manually, it will be converted only when you
 send it.

 I fixed :-/, so we did something with this bug, but for the rest of this
 case, it's wontfix.
