 Don't want to start a whole flame war, but what about different icons to
 the door/arrow combination?

 For example, for a login icon, a pulsating green circle, starting from a
 dot and grows to the full online circle.  This could repeat say 5 times
 over 5 or 10 seconds.  The logoff would be the reverse: a full green
 circle shrinking to a dot.

 This removes ambiguity and RTL or LTR standoffs.
