 Ok, then your server has s2s off which isn't surprising. If you aren't in
 the room then something is going wrong because the server is apparently
 either not getting or not processing the presence stanza pidgin is sending
 and not responding with an error (assuming it gets it). I am a bit
 surprised that we seem to be sending the room join presence quite so early
 in the signon process but it seems to work on most servers (though that
 may or may not mean it is something we shouldn't be doing). I'm at a bit
 of a loss as to what is going on here, and without seeing the XMPP traffic
 that the server receives (and how it processes it) I'm not really sure
 what to do next. I would suggest that you attempt to get the server admin
 involved in this discussion if at all possible as they might have useful
 things to say on this topic.
