Comment (by mindless):

 I'd be happy to test a build that either introduces a little delay between
 connect and auto-join and/or that places a timeout on the original join
 attempt and either retries or aborts(abort may at least then allow double-
 click on the conf name to work?).
 Unfortunately the sun java im client is the only "officially supported"
 client, so I may not get far requesting help with this (but pidgin is much
 better, so i use it!).
