 Ok, I'll trust you on the duplicate issue.

 But I disagree about the desired behaviour.  I'd like Pidgin to work like
 Google Talk, and as the original poster said, most other Windows programs
 operate.

 I tried to upload two videos here, but it's too large (only 300KB), but
 have a look at [http://www.threeshipslogistics.co.za/videocomparison.zip]

 Two XVID avi's showing how Google Talk and Pidgin works.  Unfortunately
 you can't see the double-clicks, but obviously I double-click when I'm on
 the tray icon.

 I hate it that Pidgin minimizes and disappears first and that I have to
 double-click again.

 If this really IS the desired behaviour... then who am I to argue.
