 Thanks for the swift reply. However, it is not the case that windows gives
 the focus to the NEW window. I specified that the focus goes to the
 previous window that was open when a new message arrives. I have to add
 that this is the previous pidgin window that was open, so not any other
 applications that I might have opened.
 The option "Minimize new conversation windows" is already set.
 I have a 24" screen, I do not want to use the tabs, because I want to see
 my conversations next to eachother. This is irrelevant however: there is
 something not working right. If there is a setting in Windows I need to
 change, that would be fine, but there is no way that the non tabbed option
 works without getting the focus hijacked in the way I described.
