Comment:

 The tab labels for a conversation get colorized to indicate that the buddy
 is typing, that the buddy sent a message, etc. Those colors do not show up
 in the infopane.

 The complaints about duplication of information really almost entirely
 came from people using top tabs, as in that case the duplicate information
 was all of 10-15 pixels apart (depending on font size of course). The
 other tab locations did not cause the same complaints about duplication
 for the single-tab case, I can't explain why other than to say the
 distance between them was enough (also possibly the usage differences for
 how people with non-top tabs use their tabs might account for some of
 this).

 That is slightly better than my suggestion, though a little less explicit
 as well, but I think there must be something even better then that out
 there.

 Just to clarify the situation at this point, would you mind explaining
 what exactly you think the current problem is and what suggestions you
 have for fixing it. I'm a little lost at this point as to exactly what we
 are working on trying to fix. =)
