 It is my understanding that MSN does not actually support the 'allow my
 buddy list' setting, so selecting that in the pidgin privacy dialog
 (something we shouldn't let you do but which we do because that dialog is
 in desperate need of being redesigned from the ground up) is identical to
 leaving things in the normal privacy case for MSN. The default privacy
 status in MSN is to allow the people on the 'allow list' and block the
 people on the 'block list', which would be why you were seeing what you
 were seeing.
