 As far as the AOL session dying, I added to the ticket: Ticket #4895.
 It appears that FACETIME is not handling "certificates" and that even AOL
 IM Version 6.x won't work.  I put a Pidgin debug in Ticket #4895, and
 added a simialr discussion to that ticket.

 This is definately NOT a Pidgin issue, however, I wish there was some way
 to toggle the version of AO That Pidgin mimics.  Version 5.9.6089 of the
 AOL IM client works well with the Facetime server.  Again, this is NOT a
 Pidgin bug, it's a bug in FACETIME that we're not having to put up with :(
