Comment:

 There are a couple of things you can try.

 First, yes, disable the plugins (specifically the Pidgin For Lib plugin,
 as it looks like it might be rather intensive, is no longer developed, and
 the successor project no longer appears to run in the client and is
 instead a server component).

 If that doesn't help, re-enable the plugins and copy the entire .purple
 folder to the local machine and configure pidgin to use the local copy and
 see if that helps (to rule out SAN issues).

 If neither of those helps report back and we will see what else we can
 try.
